Hey guys... My name is James O'Connor, founder and co-owner of THE BAR.
I just turned 50 and have been a gym rat my whole life. My background is primarily in the medical field and dates back to 1992, including a career with the Fire Department as a Firefighter-Paramedic, and an additional year in Afghanistan as a civilian contract medic.
I'm a USPA coach (United States Powerlifting Association) who has dedicated myself to understanding body structure and function, as well as bio-mechanics and how the body adapts to changes and stress.
I utilize an applied science approach to each powerlifting skill set, and evaluate lifters style of technique specific to their potentially multifactorial needs, thus minimize risk of injury. Simply put... There's no "One Way" to strength training. You gotta get to know your athlete, and then tailor the training to maximize their strength while minimizing risk for injury.
I'm happily married, my kids are grown, and I love dogs. You want to know more? Stop by THE BAR and say hello...
My good friend Josh and I created THE BAR because 1, we feel people who like to lift and get strong deserve a gym with the right kind of equipment, an atmosphere that's conducive and supports them, and availability to coaches who not only support their obvious strength goals, but embody what it truly means to be a coach. And 2, affording a gym membership, as well as any additional coaching shouldn't be a financial concern.
We're not over here trying to change the world through exercise. We're just focused on you, and helping you realize and forge your own undeveloped strengths.
And if life's mental, physical, and emotional domino effect takes place through you, well that's pretty cool too.
So whether you're a veteran lifter, or it's your first day inside a gym. Come see us at THE BAR, and become a part of our Teaghlach that's bonded through like-minded hard working people, blood, sweat and steel...
